Adieu, Valentino

Oh, what an exit!

Fashion designer Valentino shows us that it really is best to leave in style. The Italian couturier said that his decision to retire came after the three-day celebrations of his 45th anniversary in fashion last July.

"It's the perfect moment to say farewell to the fashion world," he said in a statement.

Valentino said that he will showcase a final ready-to-wear collection in Paris in October and a couture line in January 2008.

What comes to mind now is how the red carpet will not be quite the same without this dapper Italian. His gowns were worn by icons for iconic moments...from Jacqueline Kennedy's bridal gown for her wedding to Aristotle Onassis to a frou frou concoction for Cameron Diaz for the Golden Globes.
