Anorexia brouhaha

Correct me if i'm wrong but I think this is the first time the fashion industry is scrambling to collectively make a statement against unhealthy body image and anorexia...

In Spain, Zara dummies are made to resemble the sizes of real women. I love Zara but, admitedly, I hardly see anything that woud fit larger women. Thats the true mark of good fashion design, eh? We need designs that would flatter all sizes.

In Paris, fashion bosses from the Chambre Syndicale, Italy’s Camera Nazionale della Moda, the Council of Fashion Designers of America and the British Fashion Council will hold a confab with deigners about the use of healthy-looking models.

The British Fashion Council will not ban the use of mantis-thin models like their counterparts in Italy and Spain...but they will still will encourage designers to use healthier looking models. Hmmm. Makes sense. Just because a person is unusually thin doesn't mean she is anorexic and shouldn't be judged that way. Asian women, for instance, tend to be slender and have smaller frames. Genetics does come into play as well.

Model wunderkind Gisele Bundchen jumped into the fray by saying that parents, not fashion should be put to blame. She recounts that, as she had a very strong, supportive family base, an unhealthy self-image was never a problem.
