Fair Feathers

While most of us would rather show off locks, British chicks still wear hats to formal occasions, such as weddings. And we're not talking about dumpy Aunt Bertha hats here. The trendier "hats" have taken on the appearances of a wreath of twigs or feathers.

Obviously, Urbanoutfitters thinks highly of feathers too. Bright pheasant feathers adorn their hair bands in their latest collection.

So I thought that they would be the perfect accessory to the vintage, 1940s style dress that I wanted to wear to a friend's wedding. The weather had taken on tropical proportions (read: too hot, too humid) and it was going to take place at a garden in the afternoon. It was too early for gowns and heavy silks so I settled for the cotton dress. The problem was that it might look too casual for the wedding...and thats where two tiny peacock feathers came in. *Oh, but remember- if you want to try this at home, stick to the minimal...you want to go for an accent, the whole showgirl headpiece thing is for mardi gras and masquerades*

Aside from adding (to quote the very happy hair stylist who magically swept my short hair in an updo and wove the feathers in) drama, the feathers kept with the vintage 40s look.
