Fashion Nazi

A 19 year old girl from the U.K. returned a Zara bag to the store after discovering that it had Swastikas on the side of the bag. Zara quickly recalled the bags and released a statement:

We did not realise Swastikas appeared on some of these bags, the swastika was not on the bag which was sourced by us after being supplied by an external producer. Of course we apologise to anyone who was offended by the bag, and we will be withdrawing it from all our stores

It was indeed an oversight but- for quality control- shouldn't retailers be more careful about their wares? I can attest to Zara being internationally loved...when I was taking a summer course in Germany last year, my classmate and I (an international group coming from places that range from Ankara to Zimbabwe) scattered individually around Cologne on a free afternoon and then found ourselves, all together, in a Zara store. Since Zara appeals to such an eclectic mix of nationalities, it ought to more sensitive to what it sells.

This is what I mean as fashion being more than just what we put on. As illustrated by the Zara incident, fashion can offend and be distasteful. Shop with care, dear fashionistas.
