Girl(s) In Black Stockings

I’ve regarded stockings the same way I regarded my high school uniform- drab and inhibiting. Actually, there are several things I don’t like about stockings. For one, they’re difficult to put on. I hate having to roll them up verrrry slowly over each leg to avoid runs and tears. And then there’s the business of having to roll them slowly back down when you’re in the loo. Traditionally, formal functions like galas and launches always called for stockings, giving women (in otherwise decent cocktail dresses and gowns) a stuffy, matronly air. I've always avoided stockings if I could get away with it.

But browsing through the Mango catalogue earlier made me rethink dark stockings (if not the neutrally-toned one). With the outfits above they actually look sexy and sophisticated…which is what I imagine stockings should convey in the first place.

So, fellow shopaholics, let’s learn from the moral of the Mango catalogue. Wear dark stockings with:

1. Snug-fitting, feminine dresses or skirts
2. Dark textiles like navy or gray with soft, “warmer” shades like maroon
3. Black shoes with straps that can wrap around the ankle so they look smart and sexy at the same time
