Good Finds

A sparkling new airport was waiting for me when the plane landed in Bangkok. Both duty free items and Thai art lined the cavernous spaces...It was so big and airy that I felt as if I was stepping into a huge mall instead of an airport!

orange%20dress.jpg As promised, i'm going to be posting pictures of my good finds from Thailand. Time was very limited and all I really had were two nights to do my shopping at Suan Lum, the night market. Now Suan Lum is a bit of a tourist trap...usually when I have more time, I go to Chatuchak(where the locals go for bargains. However, this only opens during the weekends) or Pratunam Market. But bargains are still to be had in Suan Lum and the prices are still much lower than what you might find in the malls. I'm playing photographer/model now to show off the best of what I found. The orange vintage dress with the cinched waistline and the black belt is a favorite. The fabric is light and floaty- perfect for the humid Southeast Asian weather and a good day at the beach. Stocking up for summer styling is still far away but it helps to prepare! Especially when the price tag for this little number is only 550 Baht (roughly USD $15.00) .

white%20shirt.jpg My photography does little justice for this white cotton blouse. Its very feminine but- when I first saw it- the word that came to mind was "architecture". The wispy material wraps around the body in delicate but structured tiers and tinys fold gather in the neckline. Its deceptive simpleness at its best! I got this one for 300 Baht (roughly USD $ 8.20).

b2.jpg Suan Lum was also teeming with accessories, some of which are actually designed on the spot! In the spirit of the holidays, I chose 3 bracelets with red, gold, and green beads. They're unlike anything i've seen in shopping centers and, because of the tiny brass bells, have a distinctly Asian flavor. I think I can count on these to spice up any outfit! The bracelets are 100 Baht each (roughly USD $ 2.73).

bd.jpg I actually got to meet and have a chat with the designer of this black dress. She's 24 years old and designs all the outfits in her stall at Suan Lum. I'm simply amazed at the talent and the entrepreneurial spirit that she had. I wish I can fly back every month and ask her to design all my clothes before she makes it big in the fashion industy and becomes too expensive. The dress is 550 Baht (roughly USD $15.00).
