Halloween Costume Favorites for 2006

Lets play dress up!

My grandmother runs a sewing shop and she says that one of the busiest times of the year for them was Halloween. People of all ages would just flock in to get the costumes of their dreams made. I was a lucky benefactor of this sewing shop- the only time I remember having to improvise was when they were swamped with orders. It’s not only kids who want to have the costumes of their dreams made…you have teens, their parents, and even pet owners who want to dress up their dogs or cats.

I was curious about what people have in mind for 2006. The National Retail Federation and Bigresearch conducted a Halloween Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey and here are their results:

2006 Top Adults’ Costumes

1 Witch
2 Pirate
3 Vampire
4 Cat
5 Clown

6 Fairy
7 Gypsy
8 Superhero
9 Ghost/Ghoul
10 Dracula
11 Devil
12 Woman of the Night
13 Nurse
14 Pumpkin
15 Athlete

Actually, I was thinking that 18th century costumes would be popular (at least among the girls) because "Marie Antoinette" was just released. It didn't make an impact but it seems that another movie did.

“This year pirate costumes are popular among consumers of all ages, due largely to the widespread success of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise,” said Phil Rist, Vice President of Strategy for BIGresearch. “Knowing the competitive spirit that exists among young adults when it comes to sporting the best Halloween costume, many retailers have altered their merchandise assortment to appeal to this enthusiastic consumer base.”
