Knee Socks as a Fashion Accessory

The last time I wore knee socks were for school and I never considered them to be a fashion accessory. Unlike pleated tartan skirts, mary janes, or ties, I didn't dream that knee socks could integrate themselves well enough in a stylish outfit.

I saw them on trend-crazy Taiwanese teens in Taipei last year. These were mostly black opaque knee socks paired with long shorts, tank tops, and scarves. It didn't look awful but I thought they looked like something from an anime flick. I just passed it off as ~~an age gap thing~~ a cultural difference thing.

Whilst I was making my rounds in the club circuit last week ~~in my own age group mind you~~, I was surprised to see a couple of girls wearing knee socks with those loose, short dresses that are so trendy now. Aside from looking really good in them, they stood out from the rest of the girls in the room who were in tights (what else).

Its hard to describe how the outfits looked, but I found a picture of what came close to them- a Marc by Marc Jacobs outfit from Shopbop.
