M by Madonna

When the Viktor & Rolf collection was unveiled at H&M, shoppers who had been camping out of the N.Y flagship store went into a frenzy. Reports say that there was a similar line on March 22, when Madonna's line for the Swedish retail company was launched. The collection was designed by Madonna in partnership with H&M's head of design, Margereta Von Denbosch.

The level of excitement during this launch, however, was lackluster. Its no wonder. I guess we were looking for something fresh, something spicy, something only the queen of reinvention herself can deliver. She didn't. The pieces in the collection are very...basic.

"Madonna went through her closet and picked out a few staples that she felt should be in every closet," said Jennifer Uglialoro, a spokesperson for H&M. "It's very glamorous, and timeless."

There you go- staples. Sheesh. Something you'd expect from Gap or Target but certainly not H&M. Methinks the Material Girl was playing it too safe.
