Making a (Fashion) Statement

gulag%20bracelet.jpg I’ve always believed in fashion with a purpose. I like to think that fashion is a way of self-expression because it allows us to project our ideas and personal preferences into the world. Fashion can make a powerful statement…recently, we’ve seen the white band worn to help end poverty by 2015 and the tag that raises AIDS consciousness.

Joining the ranks of these statement accessories are the American Gulag bracelets and necklaces worn by those who are against certain policies of the Bush administration. I think it’s a clever concept…bracelets or necklaces designed to look like barb wire are certainly very unconventional and will draw the attention the designers from richterstudio.inc want. The sterling silver piece looks too real for comfort while the black one in sturdy rubber is too gangsta for my taste but I do like the white bracelet. I believe the point of statement items is to wear them as often as possible so that more people see them. In that case, the white bracelet would go with almost any outfit or style. On that note, I wonder if the bracelets will be available in more colors…I’d say a hot pink one would look really good.

Prices range from USD16.00- USD 225.00. A percentage of the sales will go to human rights organizations. There you go…there’s nothing like being fashionable and contributing to worthy causes at the same time.
