New York Fashion Week '07: L.A.M.B.

Surprise, surprise. Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B collection garnered many notable mentions from critics during the New York Fashion Week '07. Associated Press says:

Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. collection was the most highly stylized of the day. The clothes ranged from retro mod frocks to wearable-yet-sexy sheath dresses, all shooting out onto the runway against a black-and-white video backdrop on models wearing clunky heels.

Since I was not impressed with L.A.M.B when it first made its debut, I decided to take a closer look this time. I know Gwen was being true to her character- her clothes really look like something out of her music videos- but L.A.M.B.'s previous offerings simply looked outlandish.

The verdict? Her new collection has a lot of black knee high socks and boxy long pants, obviously inspired by Tokyo. We all know Gwen has a lot of love for J-pop but aren't these pieces considered so last season in Japan?

However, there were some pieces which I really liked.

Trend spotting: a flowy tube dress (preferably in gray or black) over a tight shirt will be the hottest look soon. Yup, L.A.M.B. featured it first.

When it becomes too cold to wear your stylish new shirt dresses, cover them up with equally slouchy and long jackets. You score extra brownie points if you sport the look with Karl Lagerfeld's trademark fingerless leather gloves.

This is street glam at its best, and I am giddy that I have the gold sneakers to go with the dress!

Here's another variation to the tube dress-and-a-shirt look. But what really got me here is the tartan belt, which, as I know realize, livens up black dresses wonderfully.
