The Return of the Empire Waist

I knew this was bound to happen. Since waist lines were inching higher and higher, it became inevitable for empire waists to make a comeback. They always do anyway...Empress Josephine, the wife of Napoleon, popularized them during her time (thus the term "empire") and here they are once again, trendy in the age of online look books and digitalized couture.

Heres what I like about the empire waist:

1. It lends a "lengthening" effect to the torso- petite girls, rejoice.

2. A full-bodied skirt under the empire waist camoflouges flabs (yeah! choose clever couture over dieting)

3.Since the seams gather right under or slightly below the bust, they can make them look bigger than they seem ;)

4. What I don't like about the empire waist, though, is how it can make you look pregnant even when you're not. Luckily, what I see on racks now are empire waists that are tailored...they flatter the form of the body instead of shrouding it.
